SS – Cardboard Testimonies

Real Life and Cardboard Testimonies are part of how we share Jesus at camp.

Real Life is intended to proclaim the Gospel message in another form that complements the camp speaker at Young Life camp. God has given all people real life stories filled with joy and pain, the “stuff” of human experience. Real Life is about sin and brokenness and being honest about it. These are powerful tools; no made-up role plays are needed. In Real Life the participants’ real stories helps kids examine their own lives — lives that long for authenticity and honesty. Kids can see themselves in those who are sharing their stories. Moreover, kids also see that real people who deal with real issues can have leadership roles at camp and live full lives.

Four or five participants will tell parts of their life stories in front of the camp group. The stories will portray different issues; for example: parents’ divorce, eating disorder, self image, boyfriend/girlfriend, abuse, sex, pornography, alcohol, drugs, academics, loneliness, church kid, being teased, death, other issues of loss, etc. The parts of these stories are usually from primary school or high school, into their early adult years – we want the teens to be able to relate to stories of life at the ages they are at now.

As part of Summer Staff, you may be asked to be part of Real Life.  There is no pressure or expectation to say yes, but we would ask you to be prayerful in considering your story with campers in this way.

Cardboard Testimonies show visually how Christ has redeemed us.

Watch the video below to see an example.

We would ask you to consider being part of Cardboard Testimonies at camp.

If you would be willing, please come to camp with what you would write on your pieces of cardboard. One side being what Jesus has redeemed you from and what He has redeemed to you to / life pre-Jesus and life with-Jesus / identity without Jesus and identity with Jesus etc.

When we get to camp, we will ask for 15 – 20 volunteers to participate, wanting volunteers from all roles on camp – Work Crew, Summer Staff, Cabin Leaders, Tech, Program.  If we end up with more than 20 people being willing, we will try and choose people with a variation of stories.
